Clifton Assembly of God

An octagon building spanning 21,000 square feet stands at 258 5th Street in Clifton, housing a congregation with roots stretching back to a Pentecostal Revival in 1931. Evangelist Blanch McConnell led the initial meetings at the corner of F Road and Second Street, after which the group held services in rented spaces like the Odd Fellows Hall. On March 7, 1932, Rev. J. E. Austell organized the church with 26 charter members, and they purchased an Adventist building that fall for $400.00. The name Clifton Assembly of God was adopted in 1935 under Rev. Vern Harville. A fire during Rev. W. A. Vanzant’s 1943 tenure destroyed the original structure, leading to a rebuild overseen by Rev. Paul Reed starting in 1947. The current distinctive octagon structure was approved in 1978 after purchasing 3.45 acres and completed in 1981. Senior Pastor Jason McManus has led the church since 1998. The ministry follows an A.C.T.S. framework, Acquire, Connect, Train, and Serve, offering ministry groups that meet throughout the week to help members grow spiritually and serve others.
