Science Uncorked: The Farmer’s Share – How much does it take to grow our food?

Presented by: Nicole Didero, Agriculture & Food Regional Specialist with CSU Extension

We all can feel the pressure of high costs from gas to groceries. Did you know that a farmer only receives roughly $0.16 on the dollar for every $1 the consumer spends? Come take a walk through our food system from production to consumption to hear some unique facts about how amazing it is that we have local food production and where we can better support agriculture in our community as consumer of ag.

Nicole Didero is a Colorado State University Extension Regional Specialist for food and agriculture. Her background is in local food systems, Spanish, and natural resources management. She is based in Hotchkiss, CO at the Western Colorado Research Center-Rogers Mesa ag experiment station and serves 16 counties (in collaboration with county-based Extension). Her role is to help create strong regional food and agricultural networks (from producer to consumer) with and for communities on the West Slope. Most recently, Nicole has been working with local fruit growers and Food Bank of the Rockies to pilot a dehydrated fruit idea for reducing on-farm food waste and improving fresh produce offerings for hunger relief.
