The Desert Furs are a contemporary rock quartet based in Boulder, Colorado. Officially forming in the Spring of 2019 and releasing their debut album, Soluble, the band features the original music of primary songwriter and guitarist Billy Wassung, electric bassist Jon Studtmann, drummer Alex Thiessen, and keyboardist William “Cody” Bump on electric piano, synthesizers, and mellotron.
Sonically the Furs weave a casual blend of classic spacious and modern psychedelic rock, ranging the musical landscapes of anthemic hippie dream-pop, rolling midtempo dance grooves, and epic Hendrix-esque rockspace. The band loves to perform live and is actively pioneering a rare form of drifter funk (aka Fur Funk), much to the dancing delight of their front range audiences. Other musical affinities include Jonathan Wilson, The Pink Floyd, Jerry Garcia, Circles Around the Sun, John Lennon, Santana, Talking Heads, and the Phish (from Vermont), not to mention all the other cool stuff from the 60’s, 70’s, and beyond.
Dig it, friends – 2020 promises to be a big year for the Colorado quartet, who are releasing their sophomore studio effort, All Is You, in January. With goals to expand their live performances and additional plans formulating for a third album, The Desert Furs offer a refreshing and stimulating sound, tones rich and luscious, and an inspiring message of love. Stay tuned!
