Montrose Police Chief and Command Staff

The goal of Chief Hall and his team is to increase public safety for everyone and ensure law enforcement is administered fairly for the entire Montrose community through community policing and focused efforts towards reducing crime.

On Wednesday, July 29th, the Chief and his Command Staff: Deputy Chief Tim Cox, Deputy Chief Larry Witte, Commander Jonathan Roberts and Commander Chris Velasquez will provide a report at the Forum on their progress this year and highlight other developments in the department, including staffing, statistics, law changes affecting Colorado law enforcement, and the strategic priorities of the police department in 2026 and 2027.

Chief Hall began his law enforcement career in 1997 when he was hired as a police officer by the Montrose Police Department. He became the police chief for the City of Montrose in 2018 and has served the community for 29 years.

He is a graduate of Colorado State University (Global Campus), earning a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice management and a master’s degree in management/law enforcement administration. He is also a graduate of Northwestern University’s Police Staff and Command School and the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Academy.

Each week, The Forum hosts a speaker who shares a topic of interest to the community. The forum is free and open to all who are interested in Montrose. The Forum meets on Wednesdays (except during major holiday weeks) at Colorado Mesa University – Montrose, in Cascade Hall, south of the Montrose Library, at the corner of S 3rd Street and S Cascade Ave.
