American Legion

Chartered by Congress in 1919, The American Legion operates as the nation’s largest wartime veterans service organization. This Carbondale post focuses on advocating for the distinct needs of service members, veterans, and their families. The group delivers essential resources to help veterans transition into civilian life, covering areas such as career guidance, education, health, benefits, and financial planning. Members enjoy exclusive discounts, access to local posts, and support from service officers. The organization lobbies for improved active-duty pay, better housing for active-duty families, and a more effective VA medical system. Current initiatives include destigmatizing mental health support and providing peer-to-peer resources to prevent veteran suicide. Membership offers a subscription to The Legion Magazine and fosters camaraderie. The Carbondale location is wheelchair accessible, features parking, and accepts credit cards.
