About
The restored Bauer Bank Building on Grand Avenue in Mancos houses Artisans of Mancos, a cooperative gallery featuring work from twenty local and regional artists. Opening on May 30, 2003, the gallery evolved from a summer experiment into a year-round destination after Conn Marsden secured support from the Mancos Chamber of Commerce. The unique operational model requires artists to manage the space, work shifts, and pay small monthly dues, ensuring no commission is taken from sales. Buyers purchase directly from creators, accessing an eclectic mix of paintings, photography, jewelry, ceramics, fine gourd art, glass works, and metal. The main floor’s wide east and north windows illuminate these diverse displays within the Four Corners region, near Mesa Verde National Park. The collective maintains a stable environment where members host workshops and special events, always ensuring an artist is present to discuss their craft.
