About
Serving the Roaring Fork Valley since 1984, Aspen Velo has evolved from a traditional road and mountain bike rental shop into a dedicated electric bike destination. Michael Wampler founded the business after arriving in the valley in the 1970s, and the name reflects his lifelong love for cycling and the Tour de France. The business remains family-run; Lucas Wampler returned from Texas in 2017, encouraged his father to test electric bikes in 2018, and by 2020, the entire fleet had converted to e-bikes as Michael retired. The shop sits in downtown Aspen, just steps from the Rio Grande Trail, offering free on-site parking and a walk-in friendly experience for locals and visitors alike. Riders can choose from trail-ready e-bikes that are custom-fitted for height and comfort. The staff provides local advice on popular routes, including the smooth, scenic Rio Grande Trail that follows the old railway route along the Roaring Fork River, the gently climbing Maroon Creek Road toward the iconic Maroon Bells, and the peaceful East of Aspen Trail winding through meadows to the North Star Nature Preserve. Aspen Velo also partners with Aspen Ski Bike, allowing customers to rent SNO-GO ski bikes during the winter months.
