Avalanche Outfitters at Redstone Stables

Mike and Judy Schilling launched Avalanche Outfitters in 1983, establishing a legacy that continues under current owner Josh Wamboldt. We operate out of the historic Redstone Stables, offering private and custom backcountry horseback rides alongside overnight pack fishing trips and big game hunts. Our hunting season targets elk, mule deer, black bear, mountain goat, and bighorn sheep across several game management units including 43, S25, and G12. We hold a special use permit from the USFS (Permit #3379) which allows us to guide in drainages such as Avalanche, East, Hawk, Braderich, Perham, and Hayes Creeks, as well as the Coal Basin area. Horseback riding typically runs from May 10 through August 31, with some openings in September and October. Hunting trips are available during Archery, Muzzleloader, Early Rifle, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Rifle seasons. Beyond the Redstone area, we provide gear and game packing services in unit 43 G. During the winter months from November through May, our team travels to Castle Hot Springs Resort in Arizona to continue offering horseback rides. We strive for an authentic western experience, and you will rarely see our wranglers in t-shirts and ball caps while out on the trail. Josh, who purchased the business in 2016 after a long career with other Colorado outfitters, brings extensive rodeo and outfitting experience to every guest interaction.
