Pizza and ice cream share the spotlight at Buckaroos Slices & Scoops, a Montrose establishment rooted in the mission of providing meaningful employment for individuals with disabilities. Our story began when Olesya, Kenny, and Angela LaJoy, alongside their mother Cindy, recognized that the traditional workforce posed unique challenges due to Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD). We built our business to accommodate these invisible disabilities, creating a supportive environment where job coaching and skill development help staff thrive. Kenny, who was adopted from Kyrgyzstan at age eight, leads our kitchen with a background that includes overcoming auditory processing and executive function hurdles. Our menu features classic pizzas and scoops of ice cream, served in a welcoming space on East Main Street. Beyond the counter, we partner with local schools and groups to mentor students with developmental delays and special needs. We offer gift certificates to encourage struggling learners and invite others with disabilities to train alongside us. Living into our mission is as important as the food we serve, ensuring that every customer supports a workplace that celebrates the abilities of all people.
