Nine Career and Technical Education courses define the daily rhythm at Grand Junction’s Career Center, where District 51 high school students trade traditional desks for hands-on vocational training. The curriculum blends academic and elective credits with real-world skill building, ensuring graduates leave with more than just a diploma. Inside the facility, students operate their own cafe and floral shop, gaining customer service experience while managing daily operations. Construction enthusiasts build sheds and learn trades, while others focus on small engine repair or animal grooming. The program’s breadth extends to healthcare, with students earning Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certifications, and education pathways that allow teacher cadets to earn college credit. This model of relative and life-applicable learning aims to instill work ethic, communication skills, and self-esteem. By visualizing a positive future through these tangible experiences, the Career Center equips students with the employability skills necessary to succeed in today’s workforce.
