City of Gunnison

Serving as the county seat for Gunnison County, we are the administrative and public safety hub for a mountain community of approximately 6,560 residents. Our operations span utility billing, permits, parks and recreation, and economic prosperity initiatives that support both locals and the influx of visitors drawn by our rich history of ranching, agriculture, and mining. We house the Gunnison Regional 911 Communications Center, a critical 24/7 hub coordinating emergency services across nearly 4,400 square miles of southwest Colorado. Our specialists dispatch law enforcement, fire, EMS, and search and rescue teams while managing radio systems and providing Emergency Medical Dispatch instructions. Beyond emergency response, we maintain the Gunnison Police Department, dedicated to protecting life and property and preserving public peace throughout the city and Western Colorado University. We work closely with partner agencies including the Gunnison County Office of Emergency Management, Gunnison Valley Hospital, and the local school district to ensure reliable service for every resident.
