Cottonwood Campground

Eighty-nine campsites stretch along the north shore of Rifle Gap Reservoir, offering wide-open spaces for tents, motorhomes, and RVs within the state park. The grounds feature a mix of walk-in tent sites tucked among pinyon and juniper trees, providing privacy with covered picnic tables and fire pits, while larger sites accommodate vehicles near the water’s edge. Amenities include flush toilets, coin-operated showers located centrally in most campgrounds, water hydrants, and a dump station. A reservation is required year-round, with sites filling quickly during peak seasons; bookings can be made online or by phone up to six months in advance. The maximum stay is 14 days within any 28-day period, and each site accommodates up to six people. Leashed pets are welcome, provided they remain on a six-foot leash and do not attach to park infrastructure. Check-in begins at 1 p.m., with check-out by noon. The campground’s proximity to the reservoir makes it an ideal base for water adventures, while spectacular mountain vistas and bird-watching opportunities appeal to outdoor enthusiasts. ADA-accessible sites are available for visitors with mobility needs.
