About

Three engines carrying 750 gallons of water each and two tactical tenders holding 2,000 gallons stand ready to respond to emergencies across Crested Butte. Our career, part-time, and volunteer crew members provide fire protection, emergency medical response, and life safety services to the community. We prevent fires through education and active suppression, ensuring the safety of both residents and visitors. When a fire occurs away from traditional hydrants, our teams access water through nine dry hydrants and more than 40 cisterns located throughout the district. This network allows us to draft water directly into our apparatus, maintaining a dependable supply during operations. Chief Robert Weisbaum leads this dedicated team with a focus on prompt, efficient, and compassionate care. Whether responding to a house fire or supporting wildfire containment efforts in the nearby Uncompahgre Wilderness, our staff brings strength, courage, and professionalism to every call. We strive for excellence by meeting the expectations of our community through dedicated service and continuous support.
