About
Eight safari-style tents rest on wooden platforms anchored to bedrock at Dunton River Camp, a luxury lodging property in Dolores that occupies the grounds of a historic cattle ranch dating back to the late 1800s. Our original farmhouse sits just twenty feet from the West Fork of the Dolores River, surrounded by five hundred acres of meadows and forest where free-range cattle still graze. Each tent offers en-suite bathrooms with six-foot soaker tubs, on-demand hot water, double vanities, and towel warmers. You are assigned two mountain bikes for your stay, allowing you to explore trails directly from the camp or ride along local roads. Our culinary team prepares meals using locally sourced organic foods, including lamb from meadows rich in boletus and chanterelles, alongside tree-ripe fruit and vegetables from our own farm and vineyard. We pair these dishes with wines such as first-growth Bordeaux, California classics, Super Tuscans, and our own Sutcliffe Vineyards labels. Nightly rates include all meals and beverages, access to the riverside sauna, and use of common area amenities. Located between the rugged peaks of Colorado, historic Telluride to the northeast, and Cortez to the southwest, we offer transportation to off-property sites and local airports. The camp operates from June through mid-October, providing an immersive natural setting where you can fish in the trout-rich river or relax by the fire-pit at the farmhouse.
