The big white steam locomotives chug along the Animas River, belching smoke into the crisp mountain air as they depart from our Silverton station. We operate the only steam train still running for scenic tours, offering a journey through the Cascade Canyon that feels like stepping back into the silver mining era. Our rustic locomotives provide an awe-inspiring experience, especially during the winter months when the snow-capped peaks frame the tracks. Guests often choose the open-air car for the full sensory experience, accepting a bit of soot for the spectacular views. The ride is a two-hour adventure, with many recommending the right side of the train for the best vistas. We even provide signature blankets for $35, perfect for keeping warm or serving as a decorative reminder of the trip. The museum at our station complements the ride with exceptional exhibits on railroad history.
