Forty-two designated sites spread across the historic townsite of Eureka, Colorado, offer a rustic camping experience managed by the Eureka Lodge and owned by San Juan County. The grounds feature ten electric hook-up sites, a separate tent area where generators are prohibited, and five group camping spots. A rustic cabin rental with electricity provides an alternative for those seeking a bit more comfort without leaving the historic setting. Campers benefit from on-site camp hosts available from June through September, a camp store, picnic tables, and non-potable water. While the site lacks an on-site dump station or potable water hookups, mobile RV fresh water and pump-out services are available for an additional fee. The location sits just below Animas Forks, providing quick access to mountain trails and riding areas, especially as Silverton restricts OHVs in town. Visitors often appreciate the stunning 360-degree mountain views, with a waterfall on one side and a river on the other. The historic nature of the townsite is preserved, with existing structures protected and no firewood collection allowed within the grounds. Openings for the 2026 season begin on June 1, with reservations opening February 1. Fifth-wheel rentals sleeping six are also available for those looking to explore the area without hauling their own rig. The campground’s after-hours honor system allows for flexible arrivals, and a large overflow area ensures space even during peak times.
