Built in 1939, the Pioneer Guest Cabins stand as a testament to Colorado’s first chairlift era, located just outside Crested Butte. The property originated as part of the Gunnison-Pioneer Winter Sports Area, where local volunteers championed the creation of the region’s first ski area during the Great Depression. A single-seated Comet Chair, purchased for $50 and completed that same year, transported skiers nearly 2,000 feet up to a warming hut. That original structure remains in the trees overlooking Paradise Divide, maintained today by local volunteers who continue the "Old Pioneer Spirit." Guests can hike to this historic hut or enjoy outdoor activities like hiking, biking, fishing, skiing, and snowshoeing directly from their cabin door. The cabins have been remodeled to retain their original charm while providing comfortable lodging for skiers, travelers, and adventurers seeking a quintessential Colorado experience.
