First Presbyterian Church
About
Organized in 1886, just one year after Glenwood Springs was incorporated, First Presbyterian Church stands as a historic anchor on Cooper Avenue. The sanctuary features acoustically excellent design, having installed electric lights in 1891 and hosting visits from Presidents Benjamin Harrison and Theodore Roosevelt. Under the leadership of Pastor Bruce McBurney and Music Director Christina Wenning, services blend traditional hymns with contemporary elements. The church actively supports local initiatives including LIFT-UP, One Square Meal, and Yampah Mountain High School’s Teen Parent Program. Gather Round offers dinner and informal worship on the first and third Wednesday evenings in the fellowship hall, while the sanctuary regularly hosts musical groups such as the Colorado Springs Children’s Chorale and High Country Sinfonia. A session of six ruling elders guides the congregation, which maintains a mostly traditional worship style.
