Gore Creek Campground

Six miles east of Vail, Gore Creek Campground sits at 8,700 feet within the White River National Forest, positioning visitors near the boundary of the Eagles Nest Wilderness. The site provides 16 back-in campsites and eight walk-in tent spots, including one fully accessible tent site, with parking spurs extending up to 35 feet. RVs exceeding this length cannot fit, and reservations allow one vehicle per site plus an extra vehicle for a nightly fee. Facilities include four handicapped accessible bathrooms and bear-resistant food lockers at each site to manage the prevalent local black bear population. Gore Creek flows through the forested setting, offering access to trails for cutthroat, rainbow, and brown trout fishing. The campground marks the west end of the paved Vail Pass/Tenmile Canyon recreation trail, which supports foot traffic and bicycles. Nearby trailheads lead directly into the Eagles Nest Wilderness, where hikers encounter bighorn sheep, bull elk, mule deer, and pika. The closest campground to Vail, it serves as a base for exploring the resort town’s skiing and dining while remaining immersed in alpine serenity.
