Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra

The Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra marks its 48th season under the baton of Maestro Charles Latshaw, standing as the largest professional orchestra between Denver and Salt Lake City. Founded in 1978 as the Grand Junction Musical Arts Association, the ensemble traces its roots back to the Mesa College Symphony that began in the 1930s. Based in Grand Junction, the organization serves the Grand Valley and Western Slope with high-quality symphonic performances and a robust educational arm. The Crystal Baton Composition Competition remains a cornerstone of their outreach, challenging elementary and middle school students to compose original works that are subsequently performed by the orchestra. Recent programming highlights include the Season Opener featuring Grieg’s Piano Concerto, an Evening Under the Stars concert, and the Sinners & Saints bluegrass acoustic event hosted at Restoration Vineyards in Palisade. The symphony also engages in community initiatives such as student ticket programs and partnerships with the Western Colorado Chorale, maintaining a subscriber base of over 900 individuals.
