About
A 10,774-foot peak dominates the view from Hahns Peak Lake Campground, where 23 single-unit sites and three double sites for larger groups sit along the shore of a 160-acre lake. The campground rests at an elevation of 8,500 feet, just 30 miles north of Steamboat Springs within the Routt National Forest. Each campsite provides a fire grate and picnic table, while a vault toilet serves visitors. The area supports trout fishing and boating with non-motorized or electric motorboats only. Hiking, mountain biking, and ATV use are permitted on most trails, including the popular Prospector/Nipple Peak Loop for cyclists and the West Side Lake Trail that winds nearly a mile along the water. Spruce, pine, and fir forests surround the campground, hosting black bear, bobcat, coyote, elk, mule deer, and moose. Lupine and other colorful wildflowers appear throughout the site during warmer months.
