About
Perched at 11,000 feet on 320 private acres in southwest Colorado, High Camp Hut offers a remote retreat accessible by a 2.5-mile hike, ski, or snowshoe. The property sits within 3 million acres of national forest and was originally purchased by Dave and Sherry Farny in 1989 while they operated Skyline Guest Ranch. Cindy Farny acquired the hut in 2005, continuing her parents' tradition of using the site as a wild destination for guests. Visitors utilize amenities including a wood-fired hot tub and sauna to disconnect from daily life in this roadless space. The Farny family placed the land under a conservation easement with The Nature Conservancy shortly after acquiring mineral and surface rights from Anaconda. Pete Sweeney serves as the winter operations manager, handling logistics and woodstove maintenance to support Cindy’s efforts. The facility is currently transitioning to a nonprofit model, ensuring long-term stewardship of the mountain sanctuary.
