About
Established in September 2009, Horsefly Brewing Company holds the title of Montrose’s oldest brewery. What began as a home-brewing hobby in garages evolved into a full-service taproom on East Main Street, moving to its current location in 2010. Owners Phil and Melanie Freismuth, who have lived in Montrose since 1997, enforce a strict "No Crap on Tap" philosophy. This standard ensures that every batch uses fresh, local ingredients to deliver peak flavor in each glass. The menu complements the beer with handcrafted cocktails and pub food, including award-winning burgers and delicate desserts. A full-service kitchen and walk-in coolers support both dine-in and take-out service, as well as to-go beer and alcohol. Guests frequently gather on the spacious outdoor patio to enjoy frequent live music in a family-friendly setting. Across the street, Phelanies offers a prohibition-style speakeasy experience; patrons can access it by finding the password printed at the bottom of their Horsefly receipts. The Freismuths also operate Airfly and Airfly Too at the Montrose airport, further cementing their presence in the local hospitality scene.
