Iron City Campground

Iron City Campground sits in the Pike-San Isabel National Forests near Nathrop, serving as a gateway to the Salida Ranger District’s 440,000 acres of public land. The surrounding area features seven 14,000-foot peaks, including Harvard, Shavano, and Antero, and borders the Buffalo Peaks, Collegiate Peaks, and Sangre De Cristo wilderness areas. Visitors utilize the site for accessing varied outdoor activities such as mountain biking, horseback riding, ice fishing, and OHV trail riding. The landscape offers extensive grasslands and forested terrain suitable for day hikes, backpacking, and scenic viewing. Managed by the U.S. Forest Service, the campground provides amenities like free wifi and parking, supporting both casual day-trippers and those seeking extended stays in the high country.
