Lake Fork Campground

At 7,580 feet on the shores of Blue Mesa Reservoir, Lake Fork Campground anchors the historic Curecanti National Recreation Area near the dam. This facility caters primarily to RV enthusiasts, offering numerous sites with ample space for larger vehicles, while tent campers can reserve specific walk-in spots numbered 046 through 050. The campground operates without electric hookups but provides flush toilets during the summer months and a dedicated fish cleaning station for anglers preparing their catch. Boaters benefit from direct access to Elk Creek, Lake Fork, and Iola boat ramps, all of which remain open seasonally. Before launching watercraft during peak months from May through October, visitors must ensure their vessels are free of Zebra and Quagga mussels at the on-site inspection stations. The surrounding landscape features semi-arid shrubland and sagebrush, with opportunities to spot Gunnison's Prairie Dogs and black-billed magpies. Nearby trails, including the Curecanti Creek Trail and Hermit's Rest Trail off Highway 92, offer hiking and scenic drives through the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park.
