Two standing wave water features define the River Park at Las Colonias, offering a unique play area within this 130-acre Grand Junction landmark. Situated along the banks of the Colorado River and just upstream from the Gunnison confluence, the park provides a lengthy accessible water channel that flows when river levels permit. Visitors can rent kayaks and paddleboards from Grand Junction Stand Up Paddle (GJ SUP), located next to the Butterfly Pond, to navigate the ponds or float down the channel. The grounds include a 40-by-60-foot amphitheater with sloped lawn seating, supported by local fundraising efforts, and a boat ramp on the east side for river access. Three sections of dog parks are available, with the west section currently open for off-leash recreation. Additional amenities feature picnic shelters, grills, and a playground. The east end of the park is currently developing into a Business Park, aiming to attract outdoor recreation businesses through a public/private partnership.
