Lyons Gulch Campground & River Access

Five campsites dot the Lyons Gulch Recreation Site, a free Bureau of Land Management campground positioned along the Colorado River just off I-70. The site provides direct river access via a dedicated boat launch, making it a convenient stop for anglers and paddlers navigating the valley. Campsite number one is specifically designated to handle larger groups, while the remaining four spots offer standard camping options. A toilet facility serves visitors during the warmer months, operating from mid-May through November 15th, though the restroom closes for the winter season. Visitors should note that cat holes are not permitted in the immediate vicinity due to the high volume of river traffic and proximity to the water. The campground enforces a seven-day stay limit between April and August, extending to fourteen days during the cooler months from September through March. Heavy rains can trigger mudslides and flooding, so camping is not recommended during those periods. The location is accessible via the Dotsero exit on I-70, with the entrance located 3.8 miles north on the Colorado River Road.
