Montrose Visitor Center

Housed in the original Montrose railroad depot, the Montrose Visitor Center serves as the starting point for exploring a region defined by its dramatic geography and rich history. Situated at an elevation of 5,794 feet, the center helps visitors navigate the area known by the slogan "Stay here. Play everywhere." Guests can access detailed information on outdoor activities ranging from hiking and golfing to water sports, leveraging the town's central position between the plummeting depths of Black Canyon National Park to the east and the towering San Juan Mountains to the south. The facility also provides resources for cultural exploration, including guidance to the Montrose County Historical Museum, which preserves pioneer life through artifacts like a rare stagecoach and a life-size homesteader’s cabin. The visitor center operates Monday through Saturday, offering free consultations to assist travelers in planning their itinerary around local attractions, museums, and the expansive recreational opportunities available on the Western Slope.
