Oh Be Joyful Recreation Area

Oh Be Joyful Creek’s massive waterfalls and summer wildflowers give name to a 30-unit campground perched at approximately 9,000 feet along the Slate River. Located roughly five miles from Crested Butte, this site offers 14 RV campsites, 15 walk-in tent campsites, and one walk-in group campsite. Each spot includes a parking space, metal fire ring, picnic table, tent pad, and bear-proof food storage locker. Vault restrooms provide basic amenities, while visitors must bring their own drinking water and pack out their trash, as no hookups or potable water are available. The access road, BLM Road 3220, is steep and rough, making it less suitable for larger, low-clearance rigs. A footbridge connects the east bank to the west side, offering access to hiking trails along Oh Be Joyful Creek and into the Raggeds Wilderness. The area supports fishing, horseback riding, kayaking, mountain biking, and motorized recreational uses. Cattle may roam the camping area, and afternoon thunderstorms are common at this elevation. Reservations are essential, as the campground is typically full, with a maximum stay of 14 days and a limit of eight people and two vehicles per site.
