About
Standing at 7,723 feet above sea level on the northern end of Western Colorado University’s campus, Paul Wright Gymnasium claims the title of the highest collegiate gym in the world. The facility serves Gunnison with two multipurpose gyms tailored for basketball, volleyball, and track and field, alongside a dedicated wrestling room. Inside the complex lies the Aquatics Center, featuring a six-lane lap pool, diving board, rope swing, and an indoor hot tub that supports swim meets and recreational training. The building extends beyond athletics to offer versatile meeting spaces and smart classrooms equipped with projectors, screens, and laptop connectivity for lectures or workshops. Surrounding the main structure are extensive athletic grounds including the Mountaineer Bowl with its regulation football field and 400-meter track, plus dedicated rugby practice spaces.
