About
Eight authentic mountain cabins sit along a tranquil creek just outside Crested Butte, Colorado, occupying the footprint of the historic Gunnison-Pioneer Winter Sports Area. Built in the 1930s by local volunteers who constructed the region’s first chairlift, these structures originally housed the pioneers of Colorado’s ski industry. The single-seated Comet Chair, purchased for $50 and completed in 1939, once carried skiers nearly 2,000 feet up to a warming hut that remains visible in the trees overlooking Paradise Divide. Today, those original cabins have been remodeled to blend rustic charm with modern conveniences, offering direct access to hiking, biking, fishing, skiing, and snowshoeing. Guests can hike to the historic warming hut, which continues to be maintained by local volunteers upholding the Old Pioneer Spirit. Surrounded on all sides by National Forest, the property provides a quintessential Colorado cabin experience where history and outdoor adventure intersect.
