Seventy works on paper by Jasper Johns anchor our current exhibition, organized alphabetically to mirror the artist’s own experimental logic. This deep dive into Johns’s strategies, titled 'Jasper Johns: a whole can be only a part,' runs through October 2026 and is curated by Jessica Eisenthal, our inaugural Jasper Johns Curatorial Fellow. The fellowship supports original research centered on the Ryobi Foundation’s collection of Johns’s works on paper, a mission rooted in the legacy of John and Kimiko Powers. They established the Ryobi Foundation in the late 1980s after relocating from New York to the Roaring Fork Valley, continuing their enthusiastic championing of modern art that includes Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, and Claes Oldenburg. Following John’s death in 1999, Kimiko expanded the mission to steward this collection and preserve the family’s ranch near Carbondale, leading to the creation of the Powers Art Center. We are dedicated to presenting iconic Pop and postwar art alongside educational programs that foster scholarship and cultural enrichment. Looking ahead, our calendar features Roy Lichtenstein: Beyond Reality from June 2026 through May 2027, inviting visitors to reconsider familiar images through bold outlines and mechanical styles. We also highlight local talent with the Future Creatives Student Art Show, which will open on March 13, 2026, featuring work from Marble Charter School students.
