About

Ridgway, Colorado, known as the birthplace of the Rio Grande Southern Railroad, hosts the Ridgway Railroad Museum, a non-profit 501(c)3 dedicated to preserving regional railroading history. Relocated to a rail yard with a half-mile loop track, the museum displays an outdoor collection of railroad cars and equipment available for public viewing at all times. Visitors can view Motor No. 1 and Goose No. 4, with rides offered on Saturdays during the summer months. The museum hosts annual events including Work Week in June and Railroad Days in September, while members participate in restoration projects on weekdays and weekends from May to October. A reference library and publications, including books on Narrow Gauge Railroading in the San Juan Triangle and the restoration of Galloping Goose No. 4, support the educational mission. Admission is free, with donations accepted.
