South Rim Campground

Twenty-five non-electric sites reopened in 2026 after the 2025 South Rim Fire, marking the return of reservable camping to this Black Canyon National Park location. South Rim Campground operates entirely cashless, requiring visitors to secure their 88 total sites through Recreation.gov rather than paying on-site. The campground sits within the park boundary, offering a rugged high-altitude experience where windblown ash and fire debris may still be visible among the trees. Campers must adhere to strict bear safety protocols, using designated lockers to store food, coolers, and scented items like toothpaste and sunscreen to prevent black bear habituation. Keeping these goods inside tents or pop-up trailers is discouraged. Fees are set at $34 for electric spots and $20 for non-electric ones, with the current limited sites available for reservation between May 18 and September 30, 2026. Free Wi-Fi, ample parking, and wheelchair accessibility are provided, alongside a 24-hour front desk to assist guests. Cell service remains limited on site, so downloading the Recreation.gov app before arrival is essential for managing payments and reservations.
