TACAW (The Arts Campus at Willits)

The Arts Campus at Willits stands as the nation’s first net-zero performing arts facility, a 10,000-square-foot all-electric venue in Basalt that opened in summer 2021. Built on land set aside two decades ago through a real estate transfer assessment, the nonprofit space replaced its interim home, The Temporary, which hosted more than 240 performances before the permanent structure was completed. The venue presents a diverse mix of concerts, theater, and ideas-based lectures designed to sustain a connected community in Colorado's Roaring Fork Valley. Recent programming highlights include performances by comedian Sammy Anzer, the band The Band Of Heathens, and Ray Wylie Hubbard. Sustainability is central to the campus identity; it partners with the Rocky Mountain Institute and Holy Cross Energy while hosting a climate-focused programming track and featuring the original play Captain POW! to inspire environmental stewardship among children. As a 501c3 organization, TACAW relies on donor support to fund its state-of-the-art operations and maintain its status as a model for sustainable arts centers worldwide.
