About
Built in 1885 with bricks manufactured just south of town, The Lariat stands as a century-old fixture on Buena Vista’s Main Street. We have occupied this three-section brick building since the 1940s, when the name first appeared, though its origin remains a local mystery. Our history is layered: we began as J.P. Treloar Family Groceries and Meat Market, later hosting a soda fountain drugstore, the first post office, a theater, and various mercantile shops before settling into our current role as a gathering space for food and drinks.
We serve American fare in an informal setting that encourages lingering. Guests frequently return for our signature pig wings, which melt in the mouth, and our catfish that practically dissolves on the tongue. The kitchen also shines with perfectly cooked burgers, rich French onion soup, and crunchy mac and cheese appetizers. For those seeking lighter bites, our rope salad offers a robust mix of flavors, while the BLT delivers on its bacon promise. Our bar highlights include Bloody Marys and Whiskey Sweets, paired with a curated selection of beers.
Beyond the menu, we offer pool tables and darts for casual competition. Our heated patio provides a comfortable spot to enjoy the mountain air, while live music and open mic nights on Sundays bring a steady stream of local talent. We close early, ensuring quality control for our kitchen service, and welcome everyone to join us in this historic space where the past meets present-day conversation.
