At 7:00 am on Sunday August 3rd, the Type 3 IMT transferred command of the incident to a Type 4 organization. This Inciweb page will no longer be updated.

As of 7:00 pm on August 3rd, fire activity remains isolated to interior pockets and inaccessible areas. Fire behavior is limited to smoldering and creeping. Suppression Repair and backhaul are complete.

The North Rim of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park is now open, with staff available at the Ranger Station from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm daily. Visitors to the North Rim will have access to all trails, overlooks, facilities, and the campground.

The South Rim of the Park remains closed to the public. The Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park is working to identify and prioritize tasks needing to be done in order to make the South Rim safe for visitors again. The Type 3 Incident Management Team is being shadowed on Saturday, Aug 4, by a Type 4 Incident Commander to ensure a smooth transition to a smaller organization. The transfer of command will take place at 7:00 am on Sunday August 3rd. Fire activity remains isolated to interior pockets and inaccessible areas. Evacuation orders have been updated and residences may return home.
Firefighters will work on direct firelines on the northwest fire perimeter where possible, otherwise will construct indirect firelines in areas providing the highest probability of success for containment. Air resources (helicopters, airtankers, and water scoopers) will support suppression activities with water and retardant drops on the north and northwest side of the fire as needed.
Crews will reinforce firelines along the burnout area of the south perimeter while air resources monitor and provide water drops as needed.
Structure crews will continue structure protection operations in the Bostwick community.
Do not travel to Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park at this time.

Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park is CLOSED and being evacuated due to a wildland fire on the south rim of the park. More information will be posted for this emerging incident as it becomes available.
An Evacuation Order has been issued by Montrose County for the following neighborhoods, roads and trails:
- All Bostwick Park residents are under evacuations. Additionally, on July 12, evacuations were issued for M73, N73, N74, and O74 roads.
- Highway 347 is closed immediately, beginning at the Highway 50 intersection.
- K73 Trail is under evacuation.
Firefighters will work on direct firelines on the northwest fire perimeter where possible, otherwise will construct indirect firelines in areas providing the highest probability of success for containment. Air resources (helicopters, airtankers, and water scoopers) will support suppression activities with water and retardant drops on the north and northwest side of the fire as needed.
Firefighters will continue to scout and assess areas on the eastern side to develop a plan to hold the fire from spreading. Air support will monitor the fire and make water drops as needed.
Crews will reinforce firelines along the burnout area of the south perimeter while air resources monitor and provide water drops as needed.
Structure crews will continue structure protection operations in the Bostwick community.
Do not travel to Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park at this time.
