The Ferris Fire is burning approximately 15 miles northwest of Dolores, Colorado on the San Juan National Forest. Lightning was the cause.

Strong winds, high heat, low humidity and extremely dry fuels are driving fire behavior. Crews are working to contain the fire as quickly and as safely possible but the volatile conditions dictate the actions that they are able to take. Fire severity varies, depending on the fuel type (trees, brush, grass), topography and weather.
