2026 Election Information and Voter Forum Part Two

We are excited to share with you the second of two very important October 2026 Forum Election presentations held in CMU-Montrose Cascade Hall:

When: Wednesday, October 14, 9:00-10:00 am
Where: Colorado Mesa University-Montrose Cascade Hall, corner of South 3rd and Cascade in Montrose
(Park on South 2nd, 3rd, 4th or in the Library Parking Lot and enter Cascade Hall via the double glass doors off Cascade Avenue)

The 2026 Ballot Candidates will be given up to five minutes each to address any or all of the following:

• an introduction/bio of themselves;
• a statement explaining why they are running;
• an outline of issues they believe are facing us;
• a brief synopsis of their priorities; and
• final comments.

Due to time constraints, there will be no questions. The speaking order for each elected position will be alphabetical by last name. The order will be:

Montrose County
1. Commissioner District 2: Caryn Gibson, Unopposed
2. Commissioner District 3: Ed Lafferty, Unopposed
3. Assessor: Brad Hughes, Unopposed
4. Treasurer: Rosemary Murphy, Unopposed
5. Coroner: Shaye Schottel, Unopposed
6. Surveyor: James Pierce, Unopposed
7. Sheriff: Gene Lillard, Unopposed
8. Clerk: Tressa Guynes, Unopposed

U. S. House of Representatives District 3:
9. Jeff Hurd (R) Grand Junction
10. Dwayne Romero (D) Aspen

Colorado House District 58
11. Larry Don Suckla (R) Cortez, Unopposed

Please Note: The Forum begins at 9:00 am This reflects our winter schedule which will last through April. For this session, CMU Montrose has graciously allowed us access for an additional hour so that all statewide and local ballot issues can be given ample time for presentation.

No campaigning. No telling you how to vote. The goal is to provide you with information so you can make informed decisions.

Each week, The Forum hosts a speaker who shares a topic of interest to the community. The Forum is free and open to anyone interested in Montrose. The Forum meets on Wednesdays (except during major holiday weeks) at Colorado Mesa University – Montrose, in Cascade Hall, south of the Montrose Library, at the corner of S 3rd Street and S Cascade Ave.
