At a glance

The San Miguel Basin Fair concluded with livestock shows and rodeo events, while the Fair Board seeks three new members to join its planning committee.

Another San Miguel Basin Fair has come and gone after a busy few weeks of livestock shows, 4-H projects, community events and plenty of time spent at the San Miguel County Fairgrounds in Norwood. The Fair wrapped up with a few longtime favorite events, including the Round Robin Showmanship, the Junior Livestock Sale, barbeque and family dance, followed by the San Miguel Basin Rodeo July 31th and August 1st.

As always, local youth put in an enormous amount of work leading up to their time in the show ring. Among this year’s winners were Shay Snyder with Grand Champion Market Pig, Max Fahrenbacker with Grand Champion Market Rabbit, Reece Elwood with Grand Champion Market Goat, Weston Elwood with Grand Champion Market Lamb and Hadley Snyder with Grand Champion Market Beef. Sawyer Wareham took both Grand and Reserve Champion Market Turkey, while Holli Johnson earned Grand and Reserve Champion Market Chicken. You can view the complete list of winners below.

The Fair is also a great reminder of just how much work goes on behind the scenes to execute the event each year. From exhibitors and their families to volunteers, buyers, judges and the Fair Board members, it takes a lot of folks to keep this longstanding San Miguel Basin tradition alive.

For anyone who wants to be get involved, there’s currently room at the table. The San Miguel Basin Fair Board has three open seats - two regular members and one alternate. The Board meets monthly in Norwood and helps plan and oversee the fair each year. Anyone interested in serving can contact the San Miguel County Commissioner’s Office at 970-728-3844 or [email protected].
