The City of Grand Junction’s leaf removal program will run from the week of October 26 through mid-December. The service will begin one week later than noted in the calendar due to minimal fallen leaves. Residents can view the full schedule and find their route information on the Leaf Removal Program website.
This program is only for single-family residences within city limits. Grand Junction is divided into five different areas, with specific rake-out dates assigned to each area. Leaves must be at the curb by 7 a.m., 18” from the curb, on specific location rake-out dates. Leaves will be picked up within three days of that date, weather permitting. Only leaves and pine needles are accepted for pick-up.
This annual community program is free of charge for those within city limits and assists residents with the removal of leaves. The purpose of this program is to eliminate excess leaf build-up along city streets that can cause stormwater drains to clog. Keeping leaves out of storm drains helps prevent flooding and reduces the potential for negative impacts on city water quality. Leaves collected during this program are reused to improve Watson Island, where the leaves will naturally compost and be used to improve soil health and restore native vegetation on Watson Island, helping support sustainable land management and a healthier riverfront environment. These improvements benefit a wide range of users, including walkers and disc golf players.
City residents will receive a postcard that includes the rake-out dates for that area.
Leaves will not be picked up on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, or on either Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26, or Nov. 27, 2026. For questions, call 970-256-4111.
