City of Aspen opens applications for second cohort of youth ambassador program to support local climate action
Aspen, CO — The city of Aspen has launched applications for the second cohort of its youth ambassador program as part of its Commit to Tomorrow sustainability campaign, offering local residents ages 24 and under the opportunity to lead sustainability and climate action projects in the community.
The first cohort, launched in December 2025, supported three youth-led projects, and the city is continuing the program to provide more young people with the opportunity to develop and implement sustainability projects in the community.
Applicants must submit a project proposal that addresses a community climate action need and aligns with the objectives of the city’s Aspen Sustainability Action Plan (ASAP). To be eligible, applicants must either reside within Aspen’s urban growth boundary or be currently enrolled in Aspen public schools.
Selected ambassadors receive up to $1,500 per project, depending on the scope and needs outlined in the proposal, as well as support from city staff throughout implementation.
“We’re excited to build on the first cohort and continue creating opportunities for local youth to make an impact,” said Isabel Tils, the city’s sustainability specialist. “We look forward to seeing what this year’s ambassadors accomplish.”
Applications are due by 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 6, 2026, with selected ambassadors being announced in December 2026. Project implementation will occur January through May 2027, ending with a project showcase.
Applicants can review the ASAP, scoring criteria and example applications, request assistance from city staff, and submit their applications at aspen.gov/1764/Youth-Ambassador-Pilot-Program.
