Durango, CO:** Information about a possible new ice rink in Durango will be provided from 5:30–7 p.m. on Oct. 7 at the Durango Community Recreation Center, 2500 Main Ave., during a public open house where the community can also provide input.
The rink is part of a study examining the potential need and viability of one or more year-round and/or seasonal ice facilities to serve Durango and the surrounding region. The study will consider community needs, facility options, programming and operational considerations, partnerships, and approaches to funding and cost recovery.
The open house will provide an opportunity for community members to learn about the study, talk with City staff and the project consultants, and share perspectives about future ice opportunities.
No decisions have been made regarding a future ice facility, the number of ice sheets, a location, or the future of the Chapman Hill Ice Rink. The purpose of the feasibility study is to gather information and evaluate options that can help inform future City discussions and decision-making; it is not to determine whether a facility is built.
The open house will include informational displays and opportunities for attendees to provide feedback.
For more information about the Ice Rink Feasibility Study, visit the City of Durango's community engagement website. https://engage.durangoco.gov/ice-rink-feasibility-study or contact the Durango Parks and Recreation Department.
