The City of Fruita is seeking Letters of Interest from properly qualified Colorado Licensed attorneys / judges who are interested in serving as the Presiding Judge of the City of Fruita Municipal Court.
The City of Fruita Municipal Court is a Municipal Court of Record that hears and determines cases arising under the City’s Charter and Ordinances. The Municipal Judge is an independent contractor who is appointed by the City Council and serves a two-year term with optional renewal terms upon mutual agreement. The Municipal Judge handles all municipal violations including parking and traffic violations, animal control violations, nuisance code violations, and building code violations. The Municipal Court does not address domestic violence or felony cases.
As currently configured, The City of Fruita Municipal Court convenes at the Civic Center, located at 325 E. Aspen Ave. Fruita, CO 81521, on every Wednesday of each month, beginning at 4:00 p.m. Compensation for this position is currently considered $3,750 per month, but is ultimately determined and approved by City Council.
In its discretion, the Council may appoint one or more Assistant Municipal Judges as may be reasonably necessary to insure the prompt and expeditious determination of Municipal Court matters. The Council may also appoint substitute municipal judges as circumstances may require in case of temporary absence, sickness, disqualification, or other inability of the Presiding Judge.
