Durango, CO: **City Councilors voted to penalize High Trestle Brewing, doing business as Durango Beer and Ice Company, for selling alcohol without a valid license.
High Trestle Brewing will not be able to operate for 14 days from the time the business owner obtains a valid license, with a fine of $5,378.
High Trestle Brewing held a valid city business license and is required under city code to file periodic sales tax returns. Despite automated reminders, the business failed to file returns or remit sales tax beginning in June 2025. After a Notice of Violation was issued on April 30, 2026, the business paid taxes for October 2025 through February 2026 but did not file returns or remit taxes for July–September 2025.
Councilors held their regular meeting on Tuesday, July 6, at 5:30 p.m. at council chambers, 949 East Second Ave., where they:
Recognized July as Parks and Recreation Month. Durango Parks and Recreation will celebrate with an open house at the Durango Community Recreation Center, 2700 Main Avenue, on July 17 from 4 to 6 p.m.
Received an update on the city’s water supply from Public Works Director John Harris. Harris mentioned Governor Jared Polis activating phase 3 of Colorado’s Drought Response Plan, which gives the city access to state funding for drought relief if needed. Harris highlighted Parks and Recreation for their efforts to save water, which has resulted in 50% less water usage across city parks. Harris also commended residents for following stage 1 water restrictions and said that No Water Wednesdays are helping the city save water.
Received an update for May on Flock camera statistics from Durango Police Chief Brice Current. In May, Durango police flock searches totaled 696, with nearly 40% being related to motor vehicle theft. Flock does not provide a built-in report sharing request data, but the police department began tracking that data manually in June. The police department suspended all sharing with law enforcement agencies outside of Colorado, Arizona, Utah, and New Mexico.
Voted to approve the third round of Lodgers’ Tax Arts and Culture grant recommendations. Council approved allocating a total of $41,244 across 17 events.
Voted to approve a resolution that officially adopts the Vision Zero Plan. The plan is a global traffic safety strategy that aims to eliminate all traffic fatalities and serious injuries.
