Durango, CO: **Durango City Manager José Madrigal has been elected by municipalities across Colorado to serve on the executive board of the Colorado Municipal League, a statewide organization that works with cities and towns to improve municipal government.
As a member of the league’s executive board, Madrigal will help advocate, inform, and provide training support for Colorado municipalities, with the shared goal of exceptional municipal governance.
“I’m excited to work with our neighboring cities and towns across the state,” Madrigal said. “Working together, we can advocate the shared needs of all municipalities in Colorado and ultimately provide the best service possible to our residents here in Durango.”
During Madrigal’s two-year term on the executive board, he will add Durango’s perspective to the challenges and opportunities that all Colorado municipalities face.
As a board member, Madrigal will also have the opportunity to directly advocate for Durango and all municipalities in Colorado through the League’s official position at the Colorado General Assembly. The league is an influential advocate for Colorado municipalities at both state and federal levels.
“José is joining a diverse group of twenty other municipal elected officials and staff from around the state and is uniquely situated to be a strong voice for the southwest part of the state,” said Kevin Bommer, CML executive director. “I am looking forward to his expertise as one of three city and town managers on the Board.”
The League is a nonprofit, non-partisan organization that has served Colorado’s cities and towns since 1923. The league represents more than 99% of Colorado's municipal population, with a total of 270 municipal members.
“Durango has a long history of CML Board members, and the city is a leader on many issues CML has worked to advance over the years. José’s expertise in workforce housing, employee engagement, financial stewardship, strategic planning, and organizational performance is immensely valuable and will continue Durango’s tradition as a leader in CML governance,” Bommer said.
Recent board members from Durango include Mayors Melissa Youssef and Christina Rinderle.
