Durango, CO: **Durango Transit is celebrating statewide recognition for two of its leaders, as Transit Manager Keith Dunning and Transportation Director Sarah Hill were named Transit Professionals of the Year at the Colorado Association of Transit Agencies (CASTA) Fall Conference in Breckenridge.

The recognition highlights the leadership, innovation and commitment to public transportation demonstrated by the Durango Transit team and reflects the work of the entire Durango Transportation Department to provide reliable, accessible and innovative transportation services to the community.

“This recent acknowledgement not only highlights the department’s achievements,” said José Madrigal, Durango City Manager, “but also reflects the outstanding contributions of the entire team under Sarah’s leadership.”

Dunning, who serves as Durango Transit Manager, was recognized for his significant contributions to the agency’s operations, technology and customer experience. Over the past several years, he has helped lead the implementation of evening microtransit service, redesigned routes to improve reliability and reduce unnecessary transfers, and overseen many of Durango Transit’s technology systems and customer-facing amenities.

“Much of what Keith does happens behind the scenes, but our riders experience the results every day,” said Hill. “He is always looking for ways to make transit more reliable, easier to use and more responsive to the community.”

Hill was also recognized for her leadership in advancing transportation services and initiatives across the community. Under her leadership, Durango’s transportation system has continued to evolve across transit, parking and multimodal transportation, with an emphasis on innovation, data-driven decision-making, partnerships and long-term sustainability.

“Public transportation is a team effort,” said Hill. “I am incredibly fortunate to work alongside a team that cares deeply about the people we serve, in this community we love. This recognition belongs to the entire Transportation Department.”

Durango Transit provides approximately 470,000 rides each year through fixed-route, paratransit and on-demand services. The system connects residents and visitors with employment, healthcare, education, shopping, recreation and other essential destinations throughout Durango and the surrounding community.

The Colorado Association of Transit Agencies represents transit agencies and professionals across Colorado and provides opportunities for transit leaders to share innovations, strengthen partnerships and advance public transportation throughout the state.
