At a glance

The City of Fruita will hire a contractor to install new culverts at King's View Road, with phased work starting this week to maintain one open lane.

Heads up, emergency repairs at the entrance of King’s View Road are underway.

Storm water from recent storms exceeded the capacity of the existing culvert on King’s View Road and eroded the shoulder on the north side. Public Works crews stabilized the shoulder and installed a temporary culvert, but continued storms have caused additional erosion, and a permanent repair is now needed.

To address this, the City will make emergency repairs using an outside contractor. The contractor will install two or three new 30-inch culverts about four feet below the road surface. Work will include traffic control, backfill and compaction, and erosion control. Underground conditions are unknown until excavation begins, so the schedule may change.

King’s View Road is the only access to the King’s View Subdivision, so work will be done in phases with flaggers keeping one lane open. Drivers should expect delays, slow down, and follow flagger direction. Heavy trucks and equipment are asked to avoid the road during construction.

Work is expected to begin this week. For questions, please contact [email protected]
