Grand Junction, CO - The Grand Junction Police Department congratulates Commander Cory Tomps on his graduation from the 299th session of the FBI National Academy.

The FBI National Academy is a prestigious 10-week professional development program for law enforcement leaders from across the United States and around the world. The National Academy, held at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia, includes advanced coursework in intelligence theory, terrorism, leadership, behavioral science, law enforcement communication, and other areas of study. The session concludes with the Yellow Brick Road, a grueling 6.1-mile fitness course.

Commander Cory Tomps has been in law enforcement for 22 years, beginning his career with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office in Southern California before joining the Grand Junction Police Department in 2006. He earned his associate degree in criminal justice and bachelor’s degree in public administration from Colorado Mesa University. Tomps has experience working in and supervising many of the units throughout the department, including Patrol, the specialized unit at Colorado Mesa University, Western Colorado Drug Task Force, Professional Standards, and the Grand Junction Regional Communication Center. He was also a founding member of the department’s Homeless Outreach Team.

Commander Tomps was nominated by the Grand Junction Police Department and selected to attend the FBI National Academy, joining 264 law enforcement professionals for the 299th session.

“On behalf of the entire Grand Junction Police Department, I congratulate Commander Cory Tomps on his completion of the FBI National Academy. Our department is made up of highly skilled and committed individuals, and I have no doubt that his experience will further his commitment to serving our community with professionalism and integrity. I would also like to thank Cory’s family for their support while he was away,” said Chief, Matt Smith, a class 271 FBI National Academy graduate.

The Grand Junction Police Department is proud to recognize Commander Cory Tomps for this accomplishment and his continued service to our community.
