Grand Junction, CO – On August 31, 2026, at approximately 7:10 p.m., 911 dispatchers with the Grand Junction Regional Communication Center received a report from a passerby near North Avenue and 28 Road regarding a person in the canal who appeared to be unresponsive.
First responders with the Grand Junction Police Department and Grand Junction Fire Department arrived on scene and located an unconscious adult male submerged in the water and not breathing. Lifesaving efforts were immediately initiated, and the male was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Mesa County Coroner’s Office will be responsible for releasing the identity of the deceased male once appropriate notifications have been made.
Foul play is not suspected at this time. The investigation remains ongoing, and there is no additional information at this time.
